Christian House and Church Swap
'Christian House and Church Swap’ (CHACS) is a UK based holiday organisation which has been running since 2003. There are registered members throughout the UK, and also in Europe and further afield. House-swapping works well for everyone; single people, married couples, friends and families. Instead of paying a substantial amount of money for holiday accommodation, and then leaving your house empty, you can simply swap homes with other Christians!
Comments from some of those who were able to house swap in 2020:-
From Jenny & Robey in Gloucestershire (joined 2010) “We had a lovely week exploring the local area and enjoying the beautiful garden. The hens treated us to eggs every day and our boys loved the Wii games and table tennis. This is a wonderful house for a swap, with plenty of space for a family and so much to do nearby.” (ref-1206 Leeds) (Ilkley Moor and Brimham Rocks highly recommended!)
From Sue in Sussex (joined 2005) We really enjoyed our house swap. (ref- 1334) Buckinghamshire is beautiful and quite countrified. The house is near the Thames, and just 5 mins drive from the M40/M25 junction which made it easy to explore the area. It is only ten minutes walk from the two lovely towns of Gerards Cross and Chalfont St Peter. And it was perfect weather. Everything worked perfectly. We are very grateful for 13 years worth of fabulous holidays in many different parts of this country, and one in Grenoble. All have been excellent. Thank you!
From Rose & Jon in Devon (joined 2019) This was our first house-swap and we weren’t sure what to expect, but it was a very positive experience. (1233-Sussex) We came home to a clean house & chocolates too!
From James and Ruth in Dorset (joined 2019) Lovely home in a lovely area of London. (ref- 1279) One short bus journey to the London tube network for easy access into central London. Great communication beforehand and everything was great. Top marks all round!
From Dawn in Oxfordshire (joined 2005) 6 of our family of 8 enjoyed a lovely week away this Summer in Exeter (ref-1473) The house was beautifully clean and tidy and they were truly hospitable, leaving us notes, flowers, fresh fruit and even a meal for our first night! They took great care of our home in Harwell and left it spotless also. It was a real pleasure to swap with them, a great chance to visit some lovely beaches and a very welcome break after 6 months isolating at home!
From Rebekah in Oxford (joined 2006)This was a perfect location for us as we wanted to visit our daughter in Manchester as well as enjoying some lovely walks in the Peak District. (ref-1219) It was a really good holiday and although the house is not the most luxurious, it was clean and anyway, that isn’t what house swap is about. We were delighted to be able to visit our daughter and to have her stay with us for one night. Top marks all round!
From Rebekah in London Top marks all round for this house swap holiday! This is an amazing home, and very close to the Sandbanks beaches. Top marks all round! (1400-Dorset)
From Jill & Justin in London (joined 2017) We loved the house in Dorset (ref 1400), including the friendly rabbit Switch and Nintendo-Wii games! We found the local area to be filled with things to do even during a rainy half term break. We went to the Tank Museum, Monkey World, Swanage and other places too. The garden is lovely but it was too cold to enjoy it. Top marks all round, great house swap holiday!
From James & Ruth in Dorset (joined 2019)
This is a great location just 15 mins walk to the centre of Oxford, and wonderful to have the river at the end of the garden. “The family very kindly let us make use of their bikes, and kayak to enjoy the river”. Top marks for the house, garden and locality(ref 0-374)
From V&R in Suffolk (ref 1157) This is a lovely home and we thoroughly enjoyed our house-swap holiday. (Cambs 1477) It was a pleasure to meet the family in their home before they left for our home! They are just a 10 minute walk through the churchyard & woods to the edge of the beautiful Grafham Water with its many opportunities. There is easy access to Cambridge & attractive local towns & villages. The house has a unique room consisting entirely of a huge selection of modern board games, digital games and a home cinema, marvelous for the enthusiast! And 2 minutes walk to the 'best' Indian restaurant/takeaway.
Following are more reasons why house-swapping works so well.
Your house, however humble or grand, will provide a great holiday base for someone else.Your locality, so familiar to you, has lots to offer to someone new to the area.
There is a huge rise in house burglary when occupants are away from home. By house swapping you have automatic Christian house sitters! When people register with us, we contact their church leader. This is for everyone’s peace of mind.
Another great feature in its favour is that you will holiday in a local community. A local person, friend or neighbour, will have agreed to give you the key, check that you are okay and to deal with any queries. That person will also be able to give you up-to-date information about nearby amenities, local events, places to visit, best pubs, good restaurants and so on.
House swappers are usually happy to water the garden and indoor plants, and feed the cat and goldfish! Mutual dog owners are generally happy for the dogs to be included in the swap!
There is never any pressure on you to make a specific choice…the choice is yours!
